Hi! I just got back from a great week at the beach. Every summer my husband and I drive down to one of our favorite places — the Outer Banks, NC.
We’ve been staying on Hatteras Island every summer since 1998. We used to go with a group of friends, which shifted to a different group, which eventually ended up being just the two of us. It started getting too hard to work with everybody’s schedules. That’s fine with us!
We had a relaxing week reading on the beach, eating great food, and enjoying the sunset from our soundfront rental home. We had great weather, too. While quite a few nasty thunderstorms rolled through, none kept us indoors all day. I also fit in a lot of running and a couple bike rides (more on that later).
For now, just enjoy some of my favorite photos!

This is not a black and white photo!

I love the sunsets. See a few more over here.

We had a busy fourth of July! Bike ride, brunch, art and music street fair by day, BBQ and fireworks by night. Like last year, we were invited to a friend-of-a-friend’s in-laws’ waterfront home to watch the show!

Of course, I didn’t bring a tripod so most of my photos looked like this:

But I kept trying!

Even though I was using a point-and-shoot, I managed to do this on purpose:

The finale:

The fireworks show was a bit odd this year. There was a finale. And then they kept shooting off more. And then there was another somewhat smaller finale. And a few more random bursts …
And then it was over. But the neighbors kept it going. They put on a pretty good show, too!

On Thursday night, I volunteered for the Chorale’s annual fund-raising cruise. I’ve done this the past few years. Fortunately my work is pretty much done early on, so I get to enjoy our time on the water!
It was quite hot all day but we were lucky – it cooled down a lot by the time we were boarding. There was a breeze and it turned out to be a beautiful night.

There’s nothing like a patch of sun on the living room floor … or at least that’s what Jeter thinks!

Same day, different spot …

Stretch!

Meanwhile, Posey was hanging out on the stairs.

And Little Guy, a friendly stray, stopped by for a visit.

Changing the subject … my hydrangeas are in full bloom!

Last Sunday after the 5K, I headed outside to do some yard work. I had a lot of weeding and clean-up to do so we could lay down some mulch.

Later that afternoon I joined my husband and friends on my first bike ride of the season. It was a nice day, and my legs didn’t feel too bad out there! We all decided it would be a good night to barbecue, so we went home to shower, returning later with some food to throw on the grill.
Their kitties were chilling in a sunny spot under the piano, and I tried to get some shots of them.

I only got one, though, before Marcello decided to greet me!

We grilled catfish, shrimp, scallops, mushrooms and corn, with a yummy spinach and strawberry salad. Delicious dinner, and good company. What a great day!

Well, I’ve been home from Jamaica for about a week now. Some photos have been posted already, and I do have some more that I’ll get up here soon. I got home a bit too late to get my Weekly Winners done last week!
The following photos were taken last Sunday, on my last walk around the resort before checking out.

Ahh, Jamaica. I’ll see you again next year!

When I was doing some yard work last weekend, I noticed the sunlight hitting the flowers. I had to take a break and snap some photos!

We grilled and ate outside, and had some dinner guests. They were hoping for some leftover tuna!
Meadow is a stray that has lived in our yard since we bought our house almost nine years ago. We had her spayed and continue to feed her.

Little Guy started showing up close to a year ago. He’s really friendly so at first we suspected he was lost, but he’s still here pretty regularly.

Last Sunday was a gorgeous day. I decided to go on a solo run around my neighborhood. I packed my point-and-shoot because I knew the trees were flowering!

Of course after a hot week, the flowers are just about done now. But they sure were beautiful while they lasted.

I was walking back to my car after brunch today through a unique little street in town. It’s very short, and a dead end only used for parking by the few residents here. All of the homes are row homes, and their porches or tiny yards face this little street.
It leads to a lot where I usually park, so I walk through it often. And this guy is usually sitting on one of the decks. When I make eye contact he meowed and walked up to me. I gave him a few pets and snapped a few photos.

Also seen on that little street:

Later in the afternoon, we attended a birthday party for our neighbors’ son. He sure enjoyed his cupcake!

All of the above photos were taken with my phone. Not the best quality but it does a pretty good job. I had no excuses for forgetting my camera at the birthday party since we live two doors down!

It’s not unusual to walk into the kitchen on a sunny afternoon and find a cat sprawled out across the floor. Unfortunately, Jeter wasn’t in much of a modeling mood the other day and this is all I got before he moved.

I do, however, have some shots from a few weeks ago that I didn’t download until now.
