I’ve finally been able to make some design modifications to the default template. I didn’t have time to start from scratch, so I just added a banner and changed the colors.
Gotta start somewhere!

Now that Halloween is out of the way (well, I started seeing decorations weeks *before* Halloween) … Christmas is in the air.
Remember when we used to wait until after Thanksgiving before rolling out the red carpet for Santa?
When did candy canes start hitting the supermarket aisles before daylight saving time ends?
I’m going to be visiting my in-laws this weekend. Even though we’re only staying for two nights, we’ll be bringing two carry-on suitcases so we will have room to pack all of the Christmas presents my mother-in-law has purchased so far (of course we’ll be good and wait until Christmas). I’m sure she actually bought most of our “stocking stuffers” prior to Christmas last year.
I, on the other hand, have not yet started shopping this year, and I only have a couple of candles I picked up on clearance last year that will be given to aunts/cousins/etc. Everyone exchanges presents with everyone, the family is very close. Too many people to buy for, so I pick up presents as I see them!
Since I know mom-in-law’s got Christmas on the brain, I’ve been struggling to add items to my amazon.com wishlist so I don’t hold up her shopping. Lately, these wishlists have been a good way get our families to buy us things we like, rather than acrylic sweaters with reindeer on them.
When we were children, the JC Penney holiday wishbook would come out, and we’d spend hours going through the toy section, writing our letters to Santa.
Nowadays, whenever I want something, I usually buy it!
Fortunately, I don’t have expensive taste so my income can accommodate my shopping sprees. I’m a smart shopper — nearly everything in my closet cost less than $40; probably a good percentage is actually under $25. (Ann Taylor LOFT sale rack, here I come …)
But when it comes to figuring out my Christmas list, there usually isn’t much on it. My husband hates that I never hint at anything, but truthfully, there usually isn’t anything that I want!
Though, I am pretty cheap when it comes to spending money on myself (see sale rack, above).
Maybe someone will buy me those $14 running socks …
This morning I was searching for a pair of socks, when my cat Jeter walked over. He was planning on jumping on the end of the dresser so he should push aside the curtain and peer out the window. (He’s a good guard cat.)
He must have miscalculated his leap, however. Instead of gracefully landing, he ended up hanging by his front paws before finally succumbing to gravity and falling to the floor.
Cats never seem to anticipate falling short. Poor little guy had such a look of surprise on his face. (Don’t worry, he’s OK. He did land on his feet after all!)
I’ll never forget seeing the same look on his sister, Posey, the day she decided to jump into the (wet) bathtub shortly after someone had finished showering. After a moment of panic, she bolted out of the bathroom!
I jammed way too much into the weekend. I was hoping to redesign this page (replacing the default ‘blogger.com’ template with something prettier). I couldn’t squeeze it all in!
I guess that’s partially because what was supposed to be a quick trip to the grocery store ended up being a much larger shopping excursion …
The performance went well, and it was fun. I didn’t even feel all that ridiculous pretending to be a party-goer with my empty plastic champagne flute.
And, there was a perk with the “job” … after Act I, there was a blackout and Act II began. The chorus didn’t sing again until the Act II Finale. I guess for timing reasons, though, intermission was right *before* the Act II Finale.
Wish we knew this Friday (when we rejoined the choir to sit uncomfortably on benches, doing nothing until the break). Last night, we were able to leave the stage and go down to the dressing room, hang out for a while, and use the restroom before intermission crowds. It was very relaxing!
Now that that’s over, tomorrow we begin rehearsing Christmas music …
