i don’t like putting things away

Especially my clean clothes.

dryer-before

Our washer and dryer are on the second floor, while our master bedroom is on the first. I suppose that might have been helpful if we had kids, but then wouldn’t we want our bedrooms closer?

This house doesn’t really make sense.

(Sorry, house. I still love you!)

Anyway, some mornings I come upstairs in my bathrobe looking for something to wear on top of the dryer. I don’t know why I let it pile up; I like being able to find my clothes!

I’ve gotten to the bottom of the pile today.

dryer-after

All that’s left is the to-be ironed pile.

Of course, there’s a load drying right now … but I’ll be good and put my stuff away!

Today, after sleeping in a bit, I spent the afternoon by myself shopping. Our mall just opened a new section with H&M; and Sephora among others … Weeee!

I am thankful for days like today, where I am free to wander at my own pace, without anything planned to rush back for!

remember this disaster?

You know, the one that spawned the whole NaBloCleanMo movement?

I'm embarrassed to say this is how I've been living.

I am proud to report I have completed the closet clean-out portion. Look at all the room for new clothes! Or, um, room to put away the pile of clothes on top of the dryer that I haven’t shown you yet …

And, of course, you remember the shoe “after” photo. It makes me so happy I’m posting it again:

I was a little concerned that they fit so perfectly. What will happen when I buy new shoes?

OK, confession. I already have bought one pair since this photo was taken. There is a pair of loafers above that have joined the casual sneakers in the rack in the closet.

What will happen when I buy more new shoes?

Fortunately, I don’t have stifle my shoe habit. I realized there are three pairs of peep-toe shoes in the rack right now. It’s now gotten cold, so they are most likely out-of-season. They can join the others under the bed!

And after that, I can put rarely worn dress shoes in under-bed boxes, too.

See? I’ve got a solution that will help me stay organized!

credenza clean-up

Time to deal with this:

credenza-before

OK, so I just got lazy about taking out the recycling. That was easy. The rest took a bit of sorting.

On top of the credenza were some books, music from concerts from last season (end of April, folks!), and that long blue and white thing? That’s a noisemaker. You swing it in the air.

Other random noisy devices seen above include a cow bell and a maraca in one of the baskets. I didn’t really have an appropriate storage location for noisemakers, so I’m appropriating one of the under-bed storage boxes I bought yesterday for miscellaneous items.

I’m glad I bought two shorter under-bed boxes, rather than one long one. Now I don’t have to hold off dealing with clothes storage until I run back to Target for more boxes!

The baskets held a lot of paperwork that needed sorting. I’m terrible with that — car loan statements, medical statements, etc.

My office filing cabinet is overstuffed so until I do some shredding, I bought a 13-pocket file folder for temporary filing. I’ve still got a bit more organizing to do, but it’s looking much better.

(By the way, the solid panel on the left slides over, there are shelves on that side too. However, I actually already had cleaned out the left side before NaBloCleanMo!)

credenza-after

Now, I really should be getting to bed. I’ve got a run early in the morning! I’m a mentor with our running club’s 10K training class, and we’re doing a trial run of the graduation race.

I’ve got a great support group that I’ve met through this class, and for them, I am thankful!

since it’s finally gotten cold outside …

It’s time to clean up those sweaters!

Remember my closet?

Until now, only the shoe situation had been fixed. The hanging storage needs at least a full day’s attention, so today I decided to clean up the shelves.

Like my dressers, I tend to shove things on these shelves that don’t have a better place to be. That’s how we got here:

closet shelves -- before

The bottom shelf above the boots is just fleece tops and sweatshirts, but sometimes the cats pull things out! Sure, it’s funny and we laugh when we come home to sweatshirts dragged into the living room … but it’s probably better if my clothes stay where they belong!

I decided to remedy the situation by picking up a few storage boxes and placing them on that bottom shelf. One box for purses (I don’t have that many, but I can never find them. There were four under those sweaters!), another for hats, gloves and random items that were in there.

There were some things that just didn’t belong there (like pants), and a few sweaters that I added to the Goodwill pile. Everything else was neatly placed back inside:

Ah. Much better, and there’s room for more sweaters! Though, I’m sure it won’t stay color-coded for long!

For day eight (that’s all?), I’m thankful that I have a good job at a great company. Even though I’ve had some frustrating issues this week, ultimately I’m happy to be there!

at the end of a long, long day …

I barely had time to squeeze in my NaBloCleanMo!

I took a really small job — that leftover messy basket on top of the main dresser.

basket -- before

It doesn’t look too different, but I threw out a lot of junk. Really. I also found a long-lost pair of earrings!

basket -- after

I’m just thankful that today is over!
I had a tough project due today at work, and then got stuck in traffic due to a bad accident closing most of the highway. What usually takes 30-35 minutes took 80, so I had to rush to eat dinner, and got to rehearsal 20 minutes late. Ugh!
