jury duty day 1

The verdict?

Pretty awesome. I didn’t really have to do anything except get up a little earlier than usual.

I reported to the court house at 8 a.m. After a short wait, a couple people talked to us about the process, and they played a short video (I believe it was called “You the Juror”). Then we had a 15 minute break.

After we reported back to the waiting area, somebody else talked to us. And then we waited. And waited.

I fortunately have two unfinished books, so I brought one along. In the background, the TV was on. We watched “Regis and Kelly” and “The Price is Right.”

Around 10 a.m., they told us the judge was still reviewing the docket. We were given another break. (You know, a break from waiting). And then we got to wait some more.

Around 11, they called 30 people. I was not one of those people. Five minutes later, they called two more people.

And then the rest of us could go.

Yay! I was home by 11:30, and worked from home for the rest of the day.

I’m on jury duty until Monday, and will have to call in each night to find out if I’m needed. I’ll be back again tomorrow morning.

I wonder what my odds are on another easy day?

running skirt review: runningskirts.com

I’m pretty sure my first purchase from RunningSkirts.com helped convert me to running skirts for good.

They were also the first skirts I bought that have attached briefs rather than shorts underneath. At first I was a little concerned about coverage, but no worries. These skirts keep you covered!

I love these skirts and have turned quite a few friends onto them. My only complaint is that there sizing tends to be a bit inconsistent.

running skirt green

My first order was during a sale. (Sign up for their mailing list — they have sales a few times a year!) There were limited colors in my size, but I found two I liked. The green pictured above, and a black and gold skirt.

I was thrilled with the green skirt, but the black and gold one didn’t fit as well. The attached brief was a bit snug. I emailed RunningSkirts.com to ask about the sizing, and they told me the black and gold skirt ran small. They offered to exchange it, but I had already worn it. The fit wasn’t too bad, so I decided to just keep it.

My next order was during another sale. I ordered this two-tone blue skirt:

And a brown/pink skirt. Again I had sizing issues. The blue one fit just fine, but the brown/pink one is much tighter. I really should have exchanged that one for the size up, but I just kept it again rather than pay to ship it back.

Since I had two skirts that fit great, I figured it was just a fluke that two didn’t fit as well. When I won a free skirt from their site, I went with the same size again. This time I got the brown/aqua.

While not nearly as bad as the pink one, it is still considerably tighter than the others. It’s a bit too snug for my liking, but I still wear it anyway!

I did finally order the next size up when I bought this skirt:

running skirt black / purple

I love the way it fits, but the waistband is a bit too loose. If I put anything in the pockets it kind of pulls my skirt down, and sometimes even with empty pockets I find myself hiking up my skirt.

OK, so this seems to have gotten a little negative. It’s just been a little frustrating trying to figure them out. I really love my RunningSkirt.com skirts!

These are fantastic skirts. They’re extremely comfortable, even in the summer heat. They stay put, even when dumping cups of water over your head during a half marathon in August.

And they’re really cute!

noblocleanmo: week one

I was off to a good start last week, but it only lasted a few days before I stopped forcing myself to do a little clean-up before hitting the couch with the TV / book / laptop.

Tonight I decided to pick it back up again with a little multi-tasking. I went through a small pile-up of mail while catching up with some shows on the DVR. (Yes, watching TV is being productive, too. I was almost out of recording space!)

After that pile was done, I decided to do something a little more drastic. There has been a milk crate sitting in my living room for a few months now. I used the crate for Iron Girl (at the end of August!) to carry my gear and organize my transition space.

Once it came back into the house, it wasn’t entirely emptied. And then it began to collect magazines, mail, paperwork, etc. Topping the crate was a large straw hat that I’m pretty sure has been there since I returned from Virginia Beach (Labor Day weekend). Actually, one of my clean-up tasks from last week was to unpack a small duffle bag that also accompanied me on that trip!

Yeah, I’m really bad about putting things away.

Anyway, I finished sorting through everything in the crate. I also got through most of the pile on the coffee table. Only now I seem to have a bigger mess than what I started with!

There was some trash and a lot of recycling, but the “keep” pile is still a pretty big stack on the couch. I should be able to take care of at least part of it before going to bed. Books, magazines and random “stuff” can be put away, leaving the filing for another day.

I am not looking forward to that day, but it’s going to have to happen sometime soon. Paperwork is taking over my house!

i was left unattended in the exam room

So I had to take a photo of the photo of my eye that the tech loaded on the screen for my eye doctor to review.

my eye

After all, it was a lot of work taking those eye photos. I’m a blinker. It took about four tries on each eye, staring at the light with my eyes wide open, waiting for the flash.

Same thing for the “puff of air” test. Though I think it took five tries on each eye.

I’m still blind as ever — without my contacts or glasses, I have to squint to make out the “E.” And now, bonus! There appears to be some swelling in my cornea so I have to buy a special ointment to use at night.

After I got home we sat around watching TV and waiting for the furniture delivery guys. We had a delivery scheduled for 1 p.m. Of course, they arrived at 2:55 p.m., two minutes after I called the store to see if they could track them down.

It wasn’t until after five when everything was assembled and arranged in my kitchen. But now I feel kind of like a grown-up. There is furniture in my kitchen that I didn’t have to put together!

new kitchen
Posey approves.

It’s nice that I don’t have to store my wine in boxes on the floor anymore. But there are some empty spots.

I need more wine!

(I also need a new kitchen floor. Someday …)
