when pigs fly

Last night, I decided it was time to start taking down the Christmas tree. It was close to bedtime so I knew I wouldn’t finish, but at least I could start the process.

I went upstairs to get the box full of ornament boxes, and packed everything away. I did a final glance at the tree, and it looked like I got everything, minus the lights and garland.

This morning as I passed the tree, one last ornament was looking at me, right smack in the middle of the tree.

Before Christmas, a runner friend gave all of us that were training for the Flying Pig Marathon a handful of flying pig ornaments. Apparently, that one pig eluded my search when I was putting everything away.

I’m taking it as a sign. None of us have actually signed up yet, and I recently have been getting discouraged by sporadic knee problems.

Also this morning, I got an e-mail from a college friend who used to live in Cincinnati (where the marathon is held), giving me some travel tips. Granted, I did ask her for advice before Christmas, but this is when she replied.

The time is now. I will sign up. The piggy knows I can do it.

kidnapped by vh1

The TV sucked me in again.

This time, it was VH1’s “I love the 70s” for a good portion of the day. Even though I was too young to remember anything from the 70s that I was around for, it’s still fun to watch!

And then after dinner, I returned for three hours of “I love the 80s” … which, I do remember. Too bad it’s over now, so they can show the top 40 videos from 2006. Since most mainstream music pretty much sucks, I’m guessing that won’t be too entertaining.

Watching all this VH1 today, though, I saw way too many extended previews for their upcoming reality shows. VH1 has been creating a lot of “Celebreality” shows that I fortunately have been able to avoid.

Probably the biggest train wreck is the “Surreal Life Fame Games” — where they determine which of their celebrities are on the “A-list.” Of course, all contestants are returning “stars” from previous seasons of “Surreal Life.”

Actually, the description on their site is a little off … saying that the mix of stars on each “Surreal Life” season are from A-listers down. It usually seems they’re more like C-listers down, but anyway …

I almost want to watch that one, of course just to see who crashes and burns. Though, I’m not really sure who some of the people are. I’ll probably be able to avoid it since I’m already hooked on plenty of quality television programs.

Now … what will I watch as I wait for the ball to drop?

getting ready for 2007

I always (sort of) make New Year’s resolutions, but I usually keep them to myself. Maybe if I put them out here, I will more likely accomplish them?

  1. Redesign and reorganize this blog.
I will add a little more personality to the color scheme, and make it a more “me.” I will try to make it a little more cohesive with labels and themes … but I won’t be changing the content too drastically. I like my free-form approach!
  2. Redesign and reorganize my home.
While I will most definitely fail at least partially (organization is perpetually on my list), I have to keep it on here. Someday, I will get to the bottom of the clutter. I also need to incorporate more artwork and color into my home. In most rooms, there are white walls, and little artwork — it looks like we just moved in!
  3. Finish never-ending kitchen cabinet project.
For about four years, I have been stripping the paint off my kitchen cabinets, sanding them down, and repainting. There are three doors that have been in the garage, awaiting sanding, since April. I won’t let myself start any other projects around the house until the cabinets are done, so currently, nothing is getting done. It has to end!
  4. Run a marathon.
We are currently training for the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati in May, though none of us have actually signed up yet. I have some knee problems, which are kind of worrying me at the moment, though.

The blog redesign will definitely happen, since I have it almost ready now. I’m holding back to actually publish it on January 1.

As for everything else … I have all year, right?

who wears short shorts?

Apparently, I did as a child. It’s starting to look like I always wore them, actually.

It became apparent when we were at my parents’ house over Christmas. They moved last spring, and this was the first time we saw their new house. I guess some of the pictures that have always been hanging up caught my attention again, since they were in different locations.

There were several family vacations documented. In all of them, what I was wearing could hardly be considered shorts. It’s a good thing I was under 12 in all of them, but still …

I’ve been scouring through the photos I have at home and found an example taken with Minnie and my brother. It’s not quite as bad as what’s in my parents’ kitchen. But still, pretty short. How do you like that snazzy ensemble? It was terry cloth.

I guess I can almost redeem myself by the fact that my brother seems to be wearing a hand-me-down?

It’s pretty obvious that my mother let me dress myself for kindergarten in the photo on the left, huh?
