now back to our regularly scheduled programming …

Ahhh … I was able to sleep late this morning, catch up on some recorded TV over a leisurely lunch, run errands, and take time to make a decent dinner.

The show is over.

It was a blast, though. The lead actors warmly welcomed us into the cast. We were invited to the cast parties following both performances. It was a great experience, and I’m sure I will be a shoo-in for “Girl #2” for years to come!

almost showtime!

Well, it’s been an exhausting week!

There have been rehearsals every day. Yesterday, I was at rehearsal longer than I was at work (though, I did leave work a few hours early).

I decided I’d do some work from home this morning/afternoon, letting myself sleep in. That helped a bit!

It’s been a lot of fun watching the show come together. I still feel a little silly in some of the scenes were I’m just standing around on stage, but it’s not too bad.

I’m glad I’ve been involved, though it has kind of zapped my blog-writing creativity!

cat barricade

This morning, it took a little longer for me to shut off the alarm.

I awoke as it went off, but could not immediately move. After wriggling out of bed and stopping the horrible beeping, I looked over to confirm that not one, but two cats had trapped me under the covers.

It is not unusual to become trapped with one cat on either side, above the blankets. But I thought it was sweet this morning that Jeter and Posey were sleeping side by side. They snuggled all the time as kittens, but nowadays, they usually just tolerate each other.

Looking at the two cats curled up on the bed, I wondered why I wasn’t in pain. I must have been contorted; it didn’t look like there was room for my legs!

I wanted to take a picture of them still sitting there, but figured they would have moved by the time I got the camera (and the flash would disturb my husband who was still trying to sleep, anyway).

Therefore, here is my “artistic” rendering of how we must have been sleeping:

Comfy, huh?

for my next act …

The community chorus I belong to is performing “Show Boat” this weekend. When we do musicals, the chorus stands in risers and soloists act out the lead parts (with minimal scenery/props).

I will be gracing the stage once again, this time with an actual speaking part.

Not that it’s anything big. I am playing the roles of “2nd Mincing Miss,” “Girl 2” and “Dolly” (whose one line was cut, but Dolly will pick up the “Girl 3” line since there won’t be a third girl). A friend of mine is the 1st Mincing Miss/Girl 1/Lottie.

My lines are as follows:

“My — isn’t she beautiful!”
“Was that man you were talkin’ to an actor?”
“And to think of all the actors you meet!”
“Are you old enough to have a daughter?”

It’s still a bit stressful, since I’m not a good actor … and I should really muster up somewhat of a Southern accent for this!

We still don’t really know what chorus songs we’re going to be on stage for (of course, we’ll need those memorized). Yeah, the first show is Friday night.

That’s just the way this organization works … I’m trying to get used to it!

sixteen miles in the snow

For our marathon training, we ran 16 miles today. While that is not farther than I’ve gone before (I’ve run two metric marathons, 26.2K/16.3 miles), today still marked a couple of milestones.

1) I have never run in the snow before.

We ran on the NCR Trail (from Ashland to a little over a mile past Monkton and back), which recently received a 1/2-inch dusting of snow. Fortunately, since temperatures have been below freezing, it was not icy or slippery. Despite the footprints from runners, walkers, bikers and deer, it was still soft and powdery. It is a different surface to run on, though!

2) It is the farthest I have run without being in excruciating pain.

I began to hurt around mile 12 during both metric marathons, and by the end I was very sore.

Today my knee did start to hurt again, but it waited until 15.5 and I just walked the last half mile. I expected it, though. When we ran 14, I had to stop running at 13.5. I’m just happy my body is keeping up with our training schedule!

We’re all kicking ourselves that nobody brought a camera. The trail was beautiful — a river runs alongside it. In a few places, rocks jutting out from the hills were covered with waterfalls of icicles. They were starting to melt in the sun, causing them to sparkle more.

Even though it’s an hour drive to get to the beginning of the trail, it was well worth it. We’ll definitely run there again!
