show and tell: tift merritt (and an amusing story)

Let me share my new favorite song.

Tift Merritt Broken from Concord Music Group on Vimeo.

I’ve been listening to Tift‘s latest album, Another Country, a lot. I’ve become quite addicted to the song “Broken.” I can’t even tell you how many times I played it today!

It’s been fresh in my mind since we saw her perform at one of our favorite venues, the Rams Head Tavern, last night.

What an awesome show! She performed for around two hours, full of energy and passion for her songs. We had a front-row table, just a few feet from her microphone when she wasn’t singing from behind the grand piano. It was a bit crowded on that small stage, she performed most songs with a full band.

This is a small, intimate venue. The musicians often come out and meet their fans after the shows. We have a growing collection of signed CD covers!

Now for the amusing story. Well, we found it hilarious. Your mileage may vary.

After the show ended, I snuck off to the restroom before the band came out. When I returned, my husband pointed out a guy standing by the still-closed door to the green room.

Now, since this is a small space, the audience is very close to the stage. I could have easily grabbed a setlist if I wanted to — I have from a few shows. They’re framed with the signed CD-covers.

Anyway, my husband told me this guy took not one, but THREE setlists off the stage. And then he rushed over to the green room, to be first in line when Tift came out.

He must have been an out-of-towner.

Tift and the band came out from the other door and greeted the small crowd that had gathered. She took photos with people (I should really start bringing my camera more often), and we greeted her and got the latest cover signed. (We got her other albums signed when we saw her last year.)

Meanwhile, I looked back as we left, and saw that guy still standing by the green room door. It was in a bit of an alcove, so he couldn’t see the crowd and the band walking around!

Ha ha. Serves him right! I wonder when he finally figured it out.

i can’t help it

I must blog about all of my fortune cookie fortunes. I actually have a few more at home that I’ll just have to save for next time.

First item of business. My cookie today told me:

“You never hesitate to tackle the most difficult problems.”

That is so not true. (Also, not a fortune, as usual). I’d much rather tackle the easy problems so I can get them off of my to-do list!

I had another in my wallet from last time (OK, they’ve been piling up for a little while!):

“You are gifted in many ways.”

Thank you for noticing, little stale cookie!

Anyway, the best of the day went to the co-worker who may or may not be contemplating the field of medical research.

“Handsome is that handsome dose.”

Yes, that is what the cookie said. The typo is not mine. My co-worker has actually got this fortune before, with the same misspelling.

And a Google search tells me other people have, too!

full moon

I’m not really comfortable getting dressed in front of people.

At the gym pool where I’ve been taking lessons, the showers have a dressing area. No problems there.

The county pool, however, does not have this luxury. After showering, I’ve been wrapping myself in a towel to return to the lockers, and getting dressed while trying to keep the towel in place.

I’m not so uncomfortable that if I dropped the towel I’d be horrified or anything, but I just prefer to keep my nakedness to myself.

Some people don’t seem to share my concerns.

After my shower tonight, I rounded the corner to find a women in her underwear and bra drying off. I didn’t find this odd; I’m fine once I have at least that layer in place. We chatted for a minute and she went over to the dryers.

I was rustling through my gym bag when another woman asked how my swim was as she returned from the shower. I looked up to see her bare ass pass me.

She continued talking to me as she was drying off and getting dressed. I usually make eye contact when having a conversation, but it’s just not something you want to do while somebody is not fully concealed!

She wasn’t the only one. Another woman actually bent over, bare-bottomed, to go through her gym bag on the floor. I kind of did a double-take on that one. Why would this woman squat down, sticking her naked butt into the air?

Now, both of these women are middle-aged. Well, I’m assuming the second one was as well. I didn’t see her face.

Maybe I’ll care less when I’m older?

it’s been far too long since i’ve blogged about shoes …

But since my last shoe-shopping update, I really haven’t made a lot of purchases!

Well, there were these:

yellow shoes

Somewhat impractical in color, but I’ve managed to wear them quite a bit. They were on sale, and they’re so comfortable!

When I noticed the same shoes were still available in green (a color that perfectly matched a couple of things already in my closet), I added them to my collection as well. (Still on sale, as well!) (Uh oh, the pink ones are $27.63 on Amazon.com. Do I need them in pink too?)

green shoes

These, however, are not nearly as comfortable as their yellow sister pair. The leather isn’t as soft, they’re a little tighter in the toes, and the right shoe rubs my heel.

They’re lucky that they’re so cute, and that a bandage can stop the pain.

I Twittered last week about a different pair of shoes hurting my feet. (Oh, right, I did decide to sign up.) These shoes:

ow!

Unlike the cute green shoes, they are not worth the pain. They were cheap, faux-patent, and hurt all over. They’ve got to go. Good-bye painful shoes!

I’ve got to make room for more somehow!
