spam, spam, spam, spam

Like everyone, I get tons of it.

Years ago, I set up a domain for a website (which, I haven’t updated in ages) , but I do use the e-mail.

At the time, keeping the ‘catch-all’ seemed like a good idea — I can make up whatever address I want and it’ll come to my default address.

I can tell some of the time where spam is coming from, so that’s good in a way. I had a few mailing lists get hacked, a mail survey sold me out, my husband used another for fantasy sports once.

There’s also a few random ones — like a1aaa1azzzz1zaaaaa@[mydomain] and johnsmithsvt@[mydomain] — that started generating enough traffic to become irritating.

I currently filter the ones I can pinpoint to a dummy gmail account. I will eventually shut them down completely, but I need to determine all of the valid ones first!

Gmail catches most of the junk as spam, which gets deleted every 30 days. As of today, I have over 3600 messages in my spam folder! 120 a day, and that doesn’t count the spam I get at work and to my addresses that I can’t filter out.

I don’t know why I’ve been finding some spam e-mail amusing lately. Sometimes the subject lines are so bizarre they make me laugh.

“To sarcasm it barney”
“BE like a normal MAN”
“citrus fruit demerit”
“to intrude where all that for in the Galactic Empire was a”
“Its hunfredo. Reply plz.”

How is anyone making a profit sending out spam? Who would read these messages, much less click through and make a purchase?

Today I accidentally opened a message that didn’t get filtered out. Beneath the Hoodia ad was the following:

“For example, a raspy grand piano indicates that the tornado beyond the burglar secretly admires the tomato near a pig pen.
A chess board self-flagellates, because the cashier pours freezing cold water on a bartender. “

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

long, uninspiring day

Trying to get back into the swing of things. It wasn’t too bad getting up this morning, considering I’ve been sleeping A LOT over the long weekend.

Phew, work day done. This evening I’ll be rehearsing Christmas music for 2 1/2 hours. Holiday Concert season is upon us!

At least I’m feeling a bit more in the holiday spirit now. Even started some shopping — Mom had a good idea that’ll cover both her and Dad that’ll be shipped shortly. Will have to figure out what to buy hubby soon …

well, almost back to reality!

I was a nice break, but I’m ready to get back to the real world. I barely left the house in days!

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can deal with all of the inflatable Santas popping up around the neighborhood … at least they restrained themselves! (well, around the corner, some folks have had their lights up for a few weeks … but it wasn’t too widespread).

After a weekend of TV watching, though, I’m already starting too get tired of the holiday ads!

mmm … leftovers

We’ve had three Thanksgiving dinners so far.

My husband has had two Thanksgiving lunches as well (I had a late breakfast and skipped lunch today).

I think he’d be content eating Tofurky, mashed potatoes and stuffing for a very, very long time.

We made two bags of stuffing, and a five-pound bag of potatoes. Probably seems like too much for two people, huh?

Since we only cook like this once a year, we like to enjoy our feast for as many meals as possible. We have at least one meal covered for tomorrow, too.

Though, I’m kind of ready to move on!

lazy day!

I spent the entire day lying on the couch, watching TLC’s “What Not to Wear” marathon. The cats have been more active than I have today!

I’m OK with today’s laziness. I’m usually pretty busy; it feels good to just relax every now and then. I still have plenty of time left this weekend to reorganize my closet!
