The community chorus I belong to is performing “Show Boat” this weekend. When we do musicals, the chorus stands in risers and soloists act out the lead parts (with minimal scenery/props).
I will be gracing the stage once again, this time with an actual speaking part.
Not that it’s anything big. I am playing the roles of “2nd Mincing Miss,” “Girl 2” and “Dolly” (whose one line was cut, but Dolly will pick up the “Girl 3” line since there won’t be a third girl). A friend of mine is the 1st Mincing Miss/Girl 1/Lottie.
My lines are as follows:
“My — isn’t she beautiful!”“Was that man you were talkin’ to an actor?”“And to think of all the actors you meet!”“Are you old enough to have a daughter?”
It’s still a bit stressful, since I’m not a good actor … and I should really muster up somewhat of a Southern accent for this!
We still don’t really know what chorus songs we’re going to be on stage for (of course, we’ll need those memorized). Yeah, the first show is Friday night.
That’s just the way this organization works … I’m trying to get used to it!
Go merry! Hope all goes well and that you have loads of fun. 🙂
